I'm left wondering what instinct made Killua feel the need to kill the two soldier ants as well as what question he had for Gon.

My best guess for attacking the soldier ants is that his instincts told him the soldiers would see through the disguise since they do not communicate through voice but rather telepathy (octopus bro is manipulating the corpse, but he lacks the telepathy and those soldiers may have noticed the difference, attacked, and ruined the disguise).

As for the question, maybe he's not sure if Gon is going with the intent to hunt the cat, save Kite, or trade his life to kill the cat. Saving Kite would weaken his mindset (he'll leave an opening), exchanging lives means he plans to die, and hunting means he plans to win. the outcomes could be vastly different depending on intent.

For reference, I'm back after finishing the arc to provide a conclusion. My findings aren't plot relevant, so you can read them in peace.

I'd say my guess on the question was accurate. Going forward, Killua spends a lot of time not sure what Gon plans to do.



I never could decide if instinct made Killua kill those ants or if it was just pure nerves. I even tried translating a Japanese discussion on the scene when someone was questioning why Ikarugo mentioned "owing one" just in case a mistranslation caused the confusion. I'm leaning toward Killua having just made a nervous decision to help since the action blowing Ikarugo's cover means it wasn't like Killua's instincts read the entire situation. However, it's also possible that the ants not dying in 0.1 seconds could have caused Ikarugo some kind of larger trouble (like if things got stalled to the extent that Cheetu saw Ikarugo fighting the soldier ants). No guarantees unless the author provides input, I guess).
